Unit Progression
Prestige System Guide
Prestige is the engine of long-term power in Tabletop Tavern. Merging duplicate units promotes them through Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers, unlocking ability slots and the stat multipliers that carry the late campaign. This guide covers what each tier actually gives you, when to merge, and how to avoid the duplicate traps that stall most runs.
Bronze (Base)
Requirement: Default recruit state. No duplicates needed.
Gains: Baseline stats and a single ability slot. Bronze units carry the early campaign but fall off hard after the second act.
Advice: Never invest rare upgrade materials into Bronze units you do not plan to prestige. Save everything for confirmed keepers.
Silver
Requirement: Merge two identical Bronze copies of the same unit.
Gains: Roughly +40% to core stats, a second ability slot, and access to the unit's signature combo trigger.
Advice: This is the single biggest power spike in the game. Prioritize Silver for your 2-3 campaign core units before spreading duplicates thin.
Gold
Requirement: Merge two Silver copies (four Bronze copies total) of the same unit.
Gains: Another large stat multiplier, a third ability slot, and an enhanced ultimate with a shorter cooldown.
Advice: Gold is a luxury, not a requirement, for clearing the campaign. Only chase Gold on one carry unit per run; the duplicate cost starves the rest of your roster.
Merge Decision Table
| Situation | Correct Action | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You hold 2 copies of a core carry | Merge to Silver immediately | The Silver stat jump and second ability slot usually beat any other purchase you could make with the same resources. |
| You hold 2 copies of a filler unit | Hold, do not merge | Filler units get replaced within a few stages. Merging locks value into a unit you will bench anyway. |
| You hold 4 copies of a core carry | Merge to Silver, then bank the second pair | Rush the first Silver for immediate power. Only combine to Gold once the rest of the squad is at Silver parity. |
| Shop offers a duplicate for a benched unit | Buy only if gold is surplus | Bench prestige is fine late in a run when gold piles up, but early gold belongs to rerolls, items, and core merges. |
| A better unit appears while you hoard duplicates | Sell the duplicates, pivot | Sunk cost is the classic prestige trap. Two Bronze copies of a mediocre unit are worth less than one copy of a true carry. |
Rules for Smart Prestige
Prestige depth beats prestige width
Three Silver units win more fights than six Bronze units with scattered duplicates. Decide your core early — usually one tank, one damage carry, one support — and feed every duplicate into that triangle before touching anyone else.
Duplicate awareness starts in the shop
The prestige system really begins at the shop, not the merge screen. Every reroll decision should ask: does buying this card move one of my core units toward Silver? If the answer is no, the gold is usually better spent elsewhere or saved for the next round.
Silver timing matters more than Gold timing
A Silver carry online two stages early snowballs into more gold, more wins, and better event options. Gold, by contrast, mostly polishes a run that is already winning. Front-load Silver, back-load Gold, and never delay a core merge waiting for a 'perfect' moment.
Respect the opportunity cost of four copies
Gold costs four Bronze copies of one unit — duplicates that could have Silvered two different units instead. In most campaign runs, two Silver units provide more total power than one Gold. Gold is for carries whose ultimate scaling changes how the entire squad plays.
FAQ
Should I prestige units I plan to replace later?
Almost never. Prestige is permanent, so merging a stopgap unit traps value in a card you will bench. The exception is a temporary Silver that solves a specific campaign boss you are otherwise stuck on.
Is it better to have one Gold carry or two Silver carries?
Two Silvers, in nearly every situation. Two Silver units give you four ability slots and two combo triggers, which is more flexible and more total damage than one Gold. Go Gold only when one unit's enhanced ultimate defines your whole strategy.
When should I start hunting duplicates in the shop?
As soon as your core triangle is decided — usually within the first few stages. Duplicate pressure should shape every reroll from that point on, because finishing a Silver two rounds earlier is often worth more than any item purchase.
What happens to items on a unit when I merge it?
Equipped items carry over to the prestiged version, so it is safe to gear a Bronze unit you intend to merge. Just avoid spending rare upgrade materials that cannot be recovered.
